The heart and soul of Wisconsin’s Forest County Potawatomi tribe are its elders. They have a clear voice within their community, whose principal casino property is the Potawatomi Casino in downtown Milwaukee. Yet the elders longed to send their young grandchildren a message: please don’t turn your back on the old ways. “Keep the tribal language and cultural traditions alive — you will never regret having made the effort to stay attached to your families and your tribal communities.” This lovely campaign which ran largely in Forest County was part public service, part love letter from elder to youth.
